10 Simple Ways to Support Candidates

There are many ways you can support your favorite candidates this election season. Here are some of LEAD’s favorites.

1. Follow them on social media and share their content. Add comments to their posts, they want to hear from you and helps their overall reach. Recent changes to facebook make it hard to get candidate information circulated. Help them out and share, share, share.

2. Visit their website and share it socially. Web crawlers like Google respond to you searching and clicking on their URL.

3. Attend their events and invite your friends to do the same. Candidates need to expand their social circle. One-on-one interactions are the best when finding supporters.

4. Host an event at your house. Again, they need to expand their circle. Consider a simple coffee with your neighbors. Be up front that they can leave a donation at the event also.

5. Share speaking opportunities with candidates. If there is a service group you are part of that would benefit from hearing from your candidate work to connect the two parties.

6. If they have a t-shirt, wear it. Wear it to the gym, wear it to the store, and be ready to explain why you support your candidate.

7. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper supporting your candidate. Stick to the qualities that make them a great leader and maybe give one example of that leadership.

8. Put up a yard sign. There is a psychological aspect to seeing a bunch of yard signs. It helps people feel confident talking about their candidate when they see they are supported, and it pumps up the candidate when they see people are behind them.

9. Volunteer. They need people to knock on doors, make calls and stuff envelopes. Next to money, this is going to have the most impact on a campaign.

10. Donate to their campaign early and often. It’s hard to get airtime during a busy political season. Even if you can just make a small contribution, make it. They need to secure media before the competition buys it up.

“Now get out there and help your favorite candidate. That’s how change happens.”
