Congratulations to LEAD intern Shi Almont on her graduation from Augustana University. She has been a fierce advocate for LEAD’s core values and a key component in moving our blog ahead. When Shi approached us about interning with us it was because she has a passion for what we’re doing, this is where she wanted to spend her internship. We are so glad she reached out to us.
Shi has not only written LEAD blogs, attended our events and Sioux Falls Day at the Legislature, she also advocated for the LGBTQ community through her My Voice column.
She will be moving on to an internship in St. Paul, MN for the summer. We wish her the best and will always remember her as LEAD’s first intern. I hope we continue to find interns as passionate about our work as Shi. Good luck and I hope we see you back in Sioux Falls soon ready to continue LEADing.
“If a journalist thinks it necessary to briefly define ze or hir for those unfamiliar with newly coined gender-neutral terms, so be it; it would be better to spare a few words for the education of audiences, as well as the accurate and thoughtful representation of the people in their story. It’s that simple.”
