KSFY looks to LEAD South Dakota for input:

Tuesday is Equal Pay Day in the United States. This year it’s being held on April 4th, which activists say is the amount of extra time needed for women to make the same amount as their male counterparts in 2016.
Research suggests on a national scale, women make 80 cents for every dollar a man earns.
Every state in the country has a gender pay gap and South Dakota ranks 20th when it comes to largest discrepancy between male and female paychecks.
Women working full-time in the state make an average of 78 cents for every dollar a man gets, adding up to a $9,000 difference each year.
In honor of Equal Pay Day the community group Lead held a mixer.
One former teacher remembered a situation that happened to her back in the early 80’s when she, along with three other women, were laid off.

“When I went in to ask if this was a performance based release, the comment to me was, no, you’re young, you’re single, you’re a woman, you can find another job,” Sioux Falls resident Linda Duba said.
