LEAD, which stands for Leaders Engaged and Determined, held a panel discussion with state lawmakers, city council and school board members to give a better understanding of what it’s like to serve in a public office.
“This is really how do you fit running for office and serving in office into the life you are currently leading,” LEAD co-founder Carmen Toft said. “If you have a demanding job and you can’t spend three months in Pierre, or if you have some little kids, maybe school board or city council would be a better fit so you don’t have to be away from home so much.”
LEAD hosts several events like this throughout the year, all aimed at helping the community become more active and involved in local government.
