LEAD (Leaders Engaged and Determined) South Dakota, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization that fights for women and families by mobilizing grassroots political action and training and equipping leaders, condemns the behavior of those who incite violence and use their platforms to push hate, racism, and xenophobia.

SD Voices for Peace provides public education, legal services, and advocacy to counter Islamophobia, anti-immigrant, anti-refugee bigotry in order to nurture informed, civically engaged, and inclusive communities.

There is no doubt that by questioning the citizenship and the patriotism of Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, President Trump aims to undermine their power.
As South Dakotans, we are disappointed that our members of congress have not rebuked the divisive language of the President. When our leaders are not willing to disavow hateful language, it sets a dangerous precedent which impacts South Dakotans directly. This moment in history makes it clear, we must continue to work to ensure people of all races, creeds, and national origins can shape policy and direction in local, state and national government and criticize what is not working. We are all Americans.

To show our solidarity we ask that all concerned community members participate in a “Social Media Storm” – on Facebook and Twitter. On Sunday, July 21, from 12-1 we need everyone to send messages on Facebook and Twitter to our South Dakota Members of Congress to create a social
media trend.

Sunday morning we will provide hashtags, message ideas, and graphics you can use. Please come back to this event page to access that material.

Let’s get trending!
