Welcome, Caroline Hansen LEAD’s part-time Summer Policy Associate. Caroline will be spending the summer engaging with campaign volunteers, holding campaign volunteer training sessions, collaborating with members of the LEAD Team, and developing our GOTV efforts.

Caroline’s outgoing, collaborative, and passionate personality will be a great asset to LEAD. Here’s some more about Caroline.

Caroline Hansen grew up on her family farm near Turton, SD. Her entire life has revolved around agriculture which made her a natural advocate for all she holds near and dear. After graduating from Northwestern High School, she attended Kansas State University receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences and Industry with a Production Management option and an emphasis on bovine reproduction. She currently works as an embryo field assistant for a cattle reproductive company. Her involvement and passion for agriculture has given Caroline opportunities to improve her leadership, community involvement, and was the start of her interest in the political process.

Caroline first became involved politically with when she was a member of the South Dakota State 4-H Youth Council and spent a day shadowing legislators in Pierre. She has attended several Young Democrats of America conventions and training, served as a Senate Intern during the 2013 Legislative Session, and currently serves as the National Committeewoman for the South Dakota Young Democrats and the chair of the Young Elected Legislative Leaders event planning committee.

Caroline still enjoys staying active in campaigns by volunteering to knock doors, make phone calls, and even enter data! She is very involved with her sister’s campaign for District 2 House of Representatives and is looking forward to using LEAD as an opportunity to help other candidates with their races. Hansen also see’s this as an opportunity to get volunteers excited about helping candidates up and down the ballot by giving of their times and talents!

“Advocacy, educating others, and standing strong with my beliefs are who I am and I’m proud of that. I applied to join the LEAD team because that is exactly what the group is doing. They advocate, educate, and work hard to elect good candidates to improve our communities and our state.”
